Unfortunately, I couldn’t follow as many news as I wanted to in the last two months. Here is what I found worth sharing:
- Scott Rowed wrote a guest posting in Greg Laden’s sience blog invalidating the argument that pupils should get trained on proprietary software, because that would be necessary for their future job. It contains a nice list of world famous companies, where Free Software knowledge is probably highly advantageous in applications. I think this point could be made more clear in our argumentation, I could have done it, but I had to write this posting ;).
- David M. Bucknell calls for “advocates, users, trainers and developers of FLOSS for Education” to submit articles for the website flossEd.
- I found a posting from 2008 which deals with the relationship between edu developers and the teachers. I’d like to know if the situation has been improved since then. Does anybody know?
- . “EduFeedr is a feed reader for online courses where each participant is using his/her personal blog to publish thoughts on course readings, answers to assignments and other course related posts.” I have to admit, that I didn’t have the chance to look at it, but it sounds interesting. EduFeedr
Country specific news:
Germany
- There is a nice blog post in German about FreeDroidz – happy robots at school!
Luxembourg
- At the latest RMLL some folks from Luxembourg gave a talk about their experiences (French, google translation). I’d love to know more about it.
United Kingdom
- I found out about DFEY (Digital Freedom in Education and Youth). According to their website, it’s a “group of young people from across Britain who believe in the need to protect their freedoms in this digital age, and wish to educate others about how to protect their own freedoms”. Sounds nice to me. I’ve put them on my list of groups to contact.
