>Αλλαγή νοοτροπίας στη Microsoft;
>Μετά από τη θρυλική υποβολή 20.000 γραμμών κώδικα στον πυρήνα του Linux, ο ίδιος ο Bill Gates υποβάλλει σε μια απαράμιλλη έξαρση ανοιχτής νοοτροπίας, τις αναμνήσεις του στο Gizmodo, “The Gadget Blog”.
Απόσπασμα:
“What made me feel a little more confident was that 1979 was the year we began to sense that BASIC was right on the verge of becoming the standard language for microcomputers. We knew this could be the catalyst that would unlock the potential of the PC to democratize computing and create the right conditions for an explosion in programs and applications that would lead to really rapid growth of the PC market.”
Μήπως ο Bill αποφάσισε στα 50 του να γίνει Linus; Η μήπως αρχίσει να αλλάζει νοοτροπία γιατί αντικρύζοντας τη πρώτη μείωση κερδών (κατά 17%) στην ιστορία της εταιρείας του βλέπει ότι το 2018 η Codeweavers θα εξαγοράσει τη Microsoft;
“In its fourth quarter, Microsoft’s net income fell to $3.05 billion, or 34 cents a share, for the period ended June 30. The figures represent a 29 percent drop in net income from the $4.30 billion, or 46 cents a share, that Microsoft reported in the period a year ago. Excluding charges tied to legal matters, layoffs and investments, Microsoft earned 36 cents a share in the quarter, meeting the forecast of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters. Microsoft’s 17 percent drop in quarterly revenue was more troubling to Wall Street, which pushed the company’s shares down more than 7 percent, to $23.70, in after-hours trading. The company took in $13.10 billion in the quarter, missing analysts’ estimate of revenue by $1.27 billion. For the full year, Microsoft’s revenue declined 3 percent, to $58.44 billion, while its net income fell 18 percent, to $14.57 billion.
