Free software at BlogOpen Spring 07

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

A few days ago, on the 6th of May, the first gathering of Serbian and bloggers from region happened in Pancevo, small town near Belgrade.

Organization team invited me to give a half hour speech about the issue I think is the best. Since blogger community, in my opinion, is generally not well informed about basic free software issues, I decided to talk about the four freedoms, GNU, a bit about licenses and social, economic and technical impact of free software. In the end, I reserved a part for the relation between free software and blogging, regarding to equality that free software provides, and dominant applications and software in this area that are actually free.

I’ve got some good comments about the speech, and I’m very satisfied that message seems to be sent to the listeners. I feel very good giving the speeches about free software, and even better when do that often, since I had another one on the 18th of April, during the B-link festival in Belgrade.

Images from event here, and you can see me here. "Slobodni softver" in the back is "Free software" in Serbian 🙂
