Software Freedom Day 2010 Gjakovë 18 September

Well, what seemed to be a quick organized event turned out to go very well. Although i ended up spending lots of money in it since i didn’t get any support from my city council.

All i did was putting some posters at the library, and around the city. Then i told PCWorld Albanian, Telegrafi.com since the owners of these two are friends of mine and they loved to help me with Advertisement. Many people said that they found it out in PCWorld although others found it out in Telegrafi.com since its the place where all the Albanian news come from in the Internet. Even the local radio station gets the news from there… Duh!

Anyway, then after the day came i went and bought some chips, and some drinks yeah! Coke and iced tea what is a SFD without Caffeine after all 🙂 then i printed the presentation plan and we did put the letters on the tables. At 10:00 nobody was there except me and my friends Jon Berisha and Besfort Guri. At 10:30 we had about 4 people and started presenting, as the number of people started to rise, we had to repeat the presentations although they where short Besfort started talking about FLOSSK.

Then i had three presentations which went well, first one was about GNU/Linux second one was an Ubuntu Installation on a virtual machine and third one was a presentation about the difference between GNU/Linux and Windows. My presentations kept the people active because i only had pictures and would talk about them. We also gave Ubuntu CDs away during the presentations.

Later two more speakers came from Prishtina Gent Thaçi and Taulant Ramabaja. Taulants presentation was cool and a debate started it was about Wikipedia/Wikimedia and CC. In the last presentation i presented Colemak the ergonomic keyboard layout although many people asked questions about it, some where skeptical about it but i got some interested and some even said they where going to try it out.

After that i invited the speakers (us 5) and someone else joined us we went to my restaurant. I had organized lunch for them we had some stimulating conversation. Then i took the speakers from the other cities to the bus station, that was where that day ended.
It was a good experience organizing an SFD well, an successful SFD after all…
