bull3t, thanks for asking that, I was super curious.

Also, if anyone is having trouble figuring out what to do with the theme after making the changes described above. Move the Taz.AdiumMessageStyle directory to ~/.kde/share/apps/ktelepathy/styles/, and taz will show up as one of the themes you can choose from.

The theme is “Taz”: http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=7997
To get it working you need to rename the folder incoming to Incoming (uppercase). Moreover with this theme the emoticons are not switched to text when you click them (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=303471 )

If you want to fix that as well, you have to modify the file Footer.html and remove all the imageSwap stuff…

A bit complicate to use, but it’s nice

I’m having the same issue with telepathy-gabble-0.15.3 under Gentoo and KDE 4.8.0. After clicking “Finish” in the 2nd screenshot, no popup appears and account list shows “Network error” under the MSN item. I don’t know if there’s something wrong on “advanced settings” (the button that appears when adding the MSN XMPP account), although I didn’t change anything.

Here are those settings (I’m trying to translate it to english, I also speak spanish):

Use low broaband mode: Not selected

Thanks, I’m glad you like it!

First of all check if your telepathy-gabble is >= 0.15.0, older version don’t support oauth authentication.
The problem happens after you get to the last screenshot and click yes or before?

Notification for new emails is not planned at the moment, we have still a lot of work to do just to support instant messaging features… Maybe in the future, but I can’t promise you anything at the moment!

Is there any additional thing to take into account besides your instructions? It doesn’t connect on my installation. It stays connecting for a while and then a popup message appears saying that it hasn’t been possible to connect with messenger.live.com due to a network error (I don’t know the precise message in english since my KDE is in Spanish). I have tried two different MSN accounts.

Also, have you planned to notify new emails arrived? I read somewhere that since Akonadi can do it it’s not necessary, but I think it’s an error. Many users have MSN accounts that only use for chatting with “secondary” contacts, ergo we don’t want to include those accounts in our system configuration.
For many people MSN is just for unimportant chat and exchage some silly mails; Telepathy should be able to handle mail notifications independently from Akonadi.

That’s actually a good idea and Gilles suggested the same, so I might be implement it, but I was thinking about something even more interesting, like compressing the files on one side and decompress them on the other (in a new directory).
In this way the user will see just one file transfer, and will have to accept just one, but he will see immediately all the files without needing to uncompress them.
And I want to make the ability to send several files in a single transfer available to the whole system, not just the kipi plugin…

I have a few ideas about how to implement it, I need to figure out which one is the best.

It’s maybe out of scope but it could be great if the selected photos could be zipped and sent as a zip. Just an idea, I’m not sure how this is cleanly feasible

It doesn’t use kmail but telepathy, that is an instant messaging framework… that means that you are able to send your stuff through MSN, gtalk, jabber, etc. to an online contact.

Martin is writing an aggregation library that will aggregate contacts from instant messaging, address book, etc. When this is ready we might change it to show all the persons from all the sources and choose the best method to send the file (instant messaging if the contact is online, otherwise e-mail).

Multiple contact is not supported at the moment, but just allowing to select several contacts (using shift and ctrl keys) shouldn’t be too hard to implement, I will work on that. I’d like to have something like dolphin where you can add/remove contacts to the selection using + and – overlays but I don’t know how hard to implement it is…

Neato. Been waiting for something useful like this. Would recommend some changes to the user interface. If, for example I’m pulling contacts from a directory would there be anyway to display in user groups. And also ability to select multiple contacts?

And also, does that *send* the email or does it pull up kmail’s new email message button pre-filled out with “To:” and “Attachments:”??

Please keep it embed like it is in the screenshot. If I want to use it, i dont want to open a browser to log in, in a way that has nothing to do with the messenger itself. that should be go like it is at the moment – in the Browser

The lineedit won’t work in this way, it can be useful to *show* the address, but if you copy and paste the address in the web browser the auth handler won’t get the token, so imho (and also reading David’s coment) it is better to leave it in this way and see if people complains.

About the consistency, file a bug and ping me after the 25th (when the string freeze ends) and I’ll fix it!
