Russian Comments
Kind of strange, I’ve picked up two Russian-language comments that do not immediately seem to be spam on my previous post. I find my Russian reading skill hasn’t deteriorated completely, but I’m left wondering what разместить means. Which reminds me of the advances made in machine translation, so of course I can look it up. At the current state of technology, wouldn’t “multi-lingual chat” be a viable service? Set up an IRC server and run everything through a translate API so that each person connected reads and writes in their own tongue.

This means addition. Also, doesn’t google work on an automated translation service for android? I thought I read something along those lines some time ago.

Google have done kind of this (or at least they claim to) in Wave. There’s a bot that’s meant to translate transparently between different languages. YMMV, though…

“разместить” - means “add” like “add a message”, “put a message on a bulletin board” & etc. So yeah - most likely it was a spam.

I think it means to change or to switch the place of something. Maybe it makes sense in your context, maybe not.

It means put up, разместить на сайте - to publish (on internet site).

Wow, thanks for all the replies! So my future idea for IM translation is already the present. Cool! The comment that set this all off was “Подскажите, можно ли разместить на своем сайте данный пост?”, which I read as “Please, can I add to your site this post?” Which I find a strange question, to say the least. And yes, I could have plugged the whole sentence in to Google translate, but I’d usually much rather do the translation work myself (certainly on a language which I once knew).

YOU know on the irc note I had a similar idea of making a chatbot using those natural language bots like cleverbot or alice. Then going on a busy channel, and let the bot try to pass for a human.

You were almost right.
“Подскажите, можно ли разместить на своем сайте данный пост?” actually means “Please, can I add to *my* site this post?”, or more precisely “Please tell, can one add this post to his own site?”, though I still don’t like “add to”, because it could be read (at least by me) like “add [link to] this post to”, I would have used “repost”, but “repost this post” doesn’t look like a good idea.
By the way, I don’t like the original sentence in russian as well, it sounds awful.

The correct translation is “(Please — omitted but implied) advise, is it permitted to put this post on my site?” — which is entirely different from “Please, can I add to your site this post?”

“Подскажите, можно ли разместить на своем сайте данный пост?” = “Can I publish your post on my site?”. He just wants to place it, share it on his own place.

«своем» can translate to ‘my’, ‘his’, ‘your’. In this case it translates to ‘my’ (site), because the speaker speaks for himself.
